Strawberry fields (and goats) forever.

This weekend, we wrapped up our “farm week” by hitting two local farms in one day. First off, a strawberry farm. Strawberry plants as far as we could see. It was beautiful.

We got to work, and before we knew it, we’d picked 25 lbs. of strawberries. I certainly had my work cut out for me that afternoon!

I made two batches of freezer jam (thanks, Make and Takes, for the tutorial which inspired bravery on my part!) and pureed more strawberries for sorbet, whole-fruit popsicles. We kept about 5 cups fresh for snacking and as a breakfast cereal topper. Mmm. Right now, I have a pie crust cooling in my kitchen. That’s right. Ken got his wish: I’m making a French Strawberry Pie for dessert tonight.

After our strawberry morning, we headed on over (in our strawberry-scented car) to a local goat farm festival. We were able to see hundreds of goats, pigs, horses. We saw a Border Collie demonstration, and the kids played with a long-eared bunny.

After my purchase of a log of peppercorn goat cheese, we said good-bye to the barn cats and felt a little sad about leaving. Deep down, I think I was meant to be a farm girl.
