Review: Gotta Go MittsApril 1st, 2008 @ 6:46 am
So, I know I’m not the only mom who’s concerned about germs. I know I’m not the only one, either, who taught the skill of hand washing even before my children could walk and talk, nor the only mom who keeps a big container of antibacterial wipes underneath the seat in my SUV.
Let’s face it. It’s a dirty world out there, and there are many, many things we want to shield our children’s hands from touching. We aren’t always given the luxury of at-home amenities, and going out with touchy-feely toddlers can be quite overwhelming (and maybe a bit scary) for us “new” mommies.
Enter a bright solution for all of life’s “untouchable” situations: Gotta Go Mitts. These little ingenious inventions sprung from the creative mind of Stephanie Dellamura, a mother of two boys. She had to find a solution when her sons would have to touch public toilet seats for balance, especially at places such as fairs and amusement parks. I can relate; even though my son is almost four, he sometimes prefers sitting on the potty (our method while potty training) instead of standing, and that means, that’s right….little hands on the potty seat.
Obviously, when Stephanie contacted me about reviewing the mitts on my blog, I knew right away after reading about them that these mitts were right up my alley. Let me share with you the great things about these mitts:
- They are made of latex-free, waterproof material. They are in a mitten shape, with a place for little thumbs. (The thumb also serves to allow a grip, unlike other disposable mitts without thumbs.)
- They fit ages 2 to 7 perfectly. A wide opening slips easily on hands.
- They are disposable.
- They are in a small little package that easily fits in my purse.
- They aren’t bulky; kids can feel what they are touching.
- The price is much better than disposable toilet seat covers.
Better yet, there are so many more uses for these mitts than just public restroom use. They’re great for:
- Shopping trips, to protect hands from germy cart handles, especially during cold/flu season
- Sticky snacks on-the-go (Like all of those suckers from the bank!)
- Keeping hands dry under mittens for snowy play
- Keeping hands clean in public restrooms even if they’re NOT going potty (i.e., curious hands that can’t resist examining the floor or feminine disposal cans)
- For keeping hands clean during messy art projects
My son used these mitts with no problem. He actually loved wearing them (he’s a fan of gloves in general)….and it didn’t hurt that they were his favorite color (blue)!
And here’s the BIG news! Stephanie has graciously offered up two packages each (each package is 20 ct.) to TWO of you! It’d be a great way to try these out for yourself!
And even if you don’t win, go on over to Gotta Go Mitts and buy some to try. You can’t beat the spring special she’s having: From now until May 31, 2008, she’s offering a “Buy One Package, Get One Free” special! You can’t beat that!
So, for a chance of winning two packs of these wonderful mitts, here’s what you need to do:
1. Head over to Gotta Go Mitts and look around a little.
2. Come back here and tell us in your comment what Stephanie used previously to protect her children’s hands (before she invented Gotta Go Mitts).
3. If you can think of another use for these mitts in your household, please let us know that, too!
4. Contest will close at 11pm on Monday, April 7th. The two lucky winners will be chosen randomly and announced the next morning (Tuesday), so check back to see if you’ve won!
5. Sorry; U.S. mailing addresses only.
Good luck!

nice. i’m not a parent of kids, but i do have two puppies to clean up after inside and when we walk them. we’ve usually also used sandwich bags, but this would be a lot nicer for - cleanup. i dig it.

Great idea! I can think of many instances where I am out in public and wished I had a practical means of keeping germs at bay. I would definitely keep a box in my back pack for any situation that comes up while away from home.
But an immediate use for me would be handling raw meat when separating meat from store packaging to freezer containers or during food preparation. Raw meat and the cook’s hands should never meet!!! Like Stephanie, I often use plastic storage bags as make shift hand protection when handling raw meat, but these mitts would be a perfect solution.

Ditto Joseph. When a mother of two can develop a product based out of a felt need she observed, and then sell that product, that’s awesome.
These also have to be a far sight better than trying to user her previous sandwich bag solution.

I am a dad and don’t think much about a bad public bathroom experience until we are taveling. This might just be a real good thought for our next road adventure with the family. Stephanie used sandwich bags before she got this one off the ground. Thanks!

Great review. She used to use sandwich bags. I am just wondering when she is going to come out with the full body Gotta Go Suit for bathrooms like you find at truck stops.

She used sandwich bags. This product is more affordable than I thought. I clicked on it and it was less than 5 dollars for 10 pairs! Wow! Way to go, inventor moms!

Those are pretty cool, I love the idea about suckers when kids are out. Before she invented the mitts, she used ziploc bags.

My nephew loves cleaning the toilets for his Mom. I know, who wouldn’t want a kid like that. I’m sure she’d be so excited to hear about this product for him. Stephanie used to use sandwich bags.

She used to use sandwich bags. These are GREAT!!! We live in NYC, and public bathrooms can be pretty scary, even (and sometimes especially) at the playgrounds. I would feel so much better if my daughter used these.

she used sandwich bags before. works better than wrapping toilet paper all around the seat. My son would love them to help change his sister’s diapers.

She used sandwich bags…
It’s kinda funny, but the first thing I thought of for another use of the mitts are for those little ones like my daughter who don’t like to get their hands/fingers messy when finger-painting!! The thought still makes me chuckle!

She used sandwich bags.
I’d also use these for my kid that can’t handle fingerpaint.. he is overly sensitive to getting his hands in paint, but mud is his best friend. (Go figure, right?)
And, for my other child that doesn’t like to get her feet dirty, I’d put these on her to play in the mud with her older brother!

She used sandwich bags, which when you think about it, are pretty similar to these mitts. (altho I’m not going to suggest using them for storing snacks). Depending on how thick the plastic is, I might use them (in addition to a plastic bag) to get some help when I clean up the dog yard.
