NIN visuals

For the NIN finale their drummer came out and interacted with the LED wall via a step sequencer. Either (1) he’s actually triggering the screen with touch or (2) he’s extremely well rehearsed and timed. It’s impressive regardless.

Oh yeah you crazy Vulcan. Get it!

Totem Destroyer | Armor Games

It feels like a 2D, flash based Boom Blox. And it’s great. Totem Destroyer | Armor Games.

Just yes

This would be better only if it included googly eyes.

nin.com feeds

I love how Nine Inch Nails incorporates already existing web technologies. They don’t attempt to reinvent the wheel, they just bend it to their desires. They even publish a feeds page listing all the individual feeds that are being published.

For example, here’s the NIN youtube page.

ZOMBIE ZOMBIE

0

Gruesome, but amazingly executed. Simon Gesrel and Xavier Ehretsmann created this stop motion piece for “Driving this road until death sets you free”, by Zombie Zombie. Yes, those are GI Joes. Yes, this is a remake of the 1983 classic “The Thing.” Yes. Mmm hmm.

Charlie Bartlett (2007)

2

I caught Charlie Bartlett last night and really enjoyed it (official site). The best way to describe it is an edgy, darker Ferris Bueller. It’s an indie film, a comedy, part social commentary. That sort of thing.

The theme of looking for acceptance and the abuse of common psychological drugs and counseling prevail. It’s told with a light and breezy wrapper (hence the Ferris Bueller flavor) makes the fairly serious subject matter entertaining without diminishing its weight.

I would recommend it, but only if the R rated content (which isn’t pervasive, but is present) doesn’t bother you.

Robokill

Need to waste, like, an hour or ten. I recommend Robokill, a flash game that’s not unlike my all-time favorite game Smash TV.

Spore Origins for the iPhone

TUAW’s thoughts on Spore Origins for the iPhone don’t make it as exciting as I’d expected. Sigh.

Captain America in Iron Man

Iron Man’s buddy

I snapped this during the movie a month or two ago just because I wanted a cool image for my iPhone wallpaper. What I didn’t realize was that (1) there is a Captain America reference in the Iron Man movie and (2) I happened to photograph it. Look on the left side, about halfway down and you’ll see the Captain America shield. What a random happenstance me taking a photo at that exact second.

Oh happy day.

Boom Blox

So this is what’s holding the attention of my home group these days. If you’re on the Wii and haven’t tried it, I highly recommend it.

Rolando for iPhone

1

This is just the sort of thing I’ve been looking forward to on the iPhone. It’s called Rolando, and looks to be a lot of fun. I’m just crazy about those great physics / puzzle games.

Oh, yes. This must become the new internet classic.

Fett dances

Aside from the obvious charm of combining to pop culture icons (Fett + the song), this is just really well done.

Marathon signs

These are for all of my friends who have participated in a marathon. If I’d been there, I would have created you a fantastic sign, too.

I’m home!!!!

Though you may not have noticed, the AV Club has been run by happy little robots for the past two weeks (how very Matrix of me, no?). I was on a family vacation for the first week, puttering around the house for a few days, then off the the Willow Creek Arts Conference for all of last week. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll probably feel a little more connected than if you don’t. Wifi was spotty in places but the iPhone was comfortable for Twittering and general minute (that’s My-Nuuute) web interaction.

However, if you’d like to know what I learned on the trip, check out my avclubbreakout Twitter feed. I split it from my main feed so as not to tick off my friends and inundate them with information. Here’s a brief image… expect about 100 more later this week as I offload my camera.

I’ve had the opportunity to sit in an airplane, a subway train, and in several cars (as well as in coffee shops, in airports, and in hotel rooms) with minimal distractions over the past few weeks and thus have been able to digest some new media. Here are a few things I’m digging:

Choosing to Cheat by Andy Stanley; RJD2′s Magnificent City Instrumentals; Weezer’s Pork and Beans; DJ Tiesto’s In Search of Sunrise 7 (didn’t get the Armani Exchange T-shirt); Wicked; a cool Chicago Art gallery opening; Starbuck’s (probably visited 6 different stores in the past two weeks)

More on what I’ve learned later.

Yo gabba WHAA?

My kids have discovered this new show called Yo Gabba Gabba. I’m convinced it’s created by a video artist with equal parts designer vinyl toy and Dee Lite. It’s pretty trippy; take a look for yourself.

Assorted items of interest

Haven’t done this in a while, here’s an assorted list of things that have my attention at this moment.

- I appreciate Collide Magazine’s thoughts on Twitter. Good thought, point to ponder.
- Dilbert is still relevant and funny. (wonder if that’s a nod to the iPhone).
- My newest favorite blog is Typo Hunt Across America. No, it’s not about good typography (I’m talking to you, Shua and Ben) but rather about finding signs with typos in them. I love this stuff.
- This will only be interesting if you already know the answer, but Gmail Blog has a post on the difference between IMAP and POP email.

The Office, Japanese

This is probably the funniest thing I’ve seen recently on Saturday Night Live.
