5 lies of the devil – series package

3

For our current series, 5 lies of the devil, we decided to try a little something new. The idea behind the package was “devil vs. TRUTH,” similar to Spy-vs-Spy of yesteryear. The series package ended up quite suitable to DSKs and logo graphics due to the textured environments built within After Effects.

Joshua provided a great assortment of “devil parts” for me to animate, including the “devil jet” featured in the open and the yet-to-be-seen “devil crane,” which unfortunately had to be cut due to time limitations.

G and a 4 wheeler

1

The other day G gave a first attempt at driving his cousin’s 4 wheeler. (for the technical of you in nature this video was shot with the iPhone 3GS, edit in Final Cut, no post color grading involved, all stunts performed by G).

Street art with masking tape

Now this looks like a good way to have some feels-kinda-dangerous-but-really-is-benign fun, making street art with masking tape.

This year for the holidays I want to take my family through this, the Könecke Advent Sausage.

Casio VL_Tone

1

I recorded this track last night with Propellerhead’s Record. I love that I can easily track real world instruments into the Propellerhead’s environment then utilized the Reason effects chains and automation to make things much more interesting. In this track there are a few Reason drum sequencers, one Subtractor, and a Thor providing some pad and shimmer toward the end. The other synth tracks are created from a simple Casio VL_Tone keyboard from 1980. In addition, the glitchy beats are built with the Hexatone app on the iPhone and captured live. Finally, a smattering of old movie clips give some added context, and are just plain fun.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

The screenshot below really doesn’t tell you all that much except that Propellerhead Record is beautiful.

AE Portal News: “BAD TV” Distortion

I’m sure I’ll find a way to work in this “BAD TV” Distortion AE filter. Sorry Windows folks, it’s Mac-only. But looks like fun.

I see what they’re doing over at Meek.FM and I dig it.

Nuclear O’Reilly Music Production

0

And here it is. Nuclear O’Reilly Music Production has produced the first (their assumption, which is probably correct) album fully composed on the iPhone. They utilized Intua’s Beatmaker to create these, honestly, rather entertaining tracks. I gave it a listen the other day while I worked and was rather impressed.

Portable NewSpring

1

“But wait, I thought you were in a building, now?” That may be true for our Anderson campus, but we spent six years doing setup/teardown and we’re quite familiar with the portable church method. In fact, our Greenville and Florence campuses perform this setup nearly every week. Would you like a sneak peek into what it takes to make it happen? Kevin, our video producer over at the Greenville campus, shot this timelapse the other day. Praise God for this swarm of volunteers who make this happen.

Jeans survey results

0

The other day on Twitter I asked the question “how many times do you wear a pair of jeans before you wash them?” The answers were varied so I’ll let the responses speak for themselves. Multipliers are included to denote multiple similar responses. Here are the results:

Definitive numbers
one time (citing OCD)
2-3 times x8
3-4 on average
5-7 times x3

Sensory gauge
“when they look, feel or smell dirty”

High variability
“between 1 and 25″

Pigpen-style, or just machine wash clueless
“r jeans washable?”
“you’re supposed to wash them?” x2
“I plead the fifth”
“when I lose count I wash, I can count pretty high”

Here’s a little taste of what you’ll see in the next few weeks at NewSpring.

Tone matrix

So, wondering what a tone matrix is? No, never heard of one? Well take a look at this.

iPhone music

0

Say what you want, I still see it coming. As the iPhone gets (1) more prevalent in the hands of nearly everyone and (2) increases in ability it will increasing become a compositional space for musicians, electronic musicians in particular. I mentioned it back in November just for the record. Stylistically I’m not a huge fan of this piece right here. However I love where this technology is going and I appreciate what is possible.

Pizza Hut iPhone app

1

This is a creative idea. Talk about ensuring brand loyalty, get customers using this bad boy and all the tech savvy pizza lovers have their “go to” food of choice ready to roll.

Mixxx, free open source DJ software

I’m always up for trying something new related to open source, music. If that’s you, too, maybe you should give Mixxx a try.

Unleash 2010

Great job, Adam, on the Unleash 2010 promo. Others are coming, won’t you come?
