Oven Microwave

Here’s a thought. What if we do discover time travel, but instead of applying it to sending people through time (which is nearly always the case in the movies) we direct this power towards the kitchen.

Imagine if you had a conventional oven with a time travel ability. You propel your uncooked meal into the past by about 45 minutes. As soon as you put it in the oven it will catch up with you in time and be ready to eat.

Hmm, there’s something there. If it doesn’t become a reality, maybe Alton Brown will at least pick it up for a segment of Good Eats.

I like the concept. For the person who likes to plan ahead… Spend the time preparing meals and sending them all to the future. Have a hot breakfast each day over cereal. Arrive at home each day with a meal waiting in the oven. Throw away the menu and be surprised with what you find when you open the door. Likewise, you end up increasing your refrigerator space, since there is little need to store a week’s worth of groceries waiting to be cooked. Shazaaam!

Don, you’re on to something. Imagine if you discovered a point in time with drastic global freezing… instant deep freezer access.

  • You’ve no doubt heard Steven Wright’s musing on this subject. He suggested that instant coffee placed into a microwave would itself then become a backwards traveling machine.

  • A second thought… if you set the machine to 10 minutes AFTER meal time, you would have already eaten and be full, thus additional time savings.
