NIN|JA 2009

Tonight, Justin and I went to see Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction for the NIN|JA 2009 tour. It was NIN’s final tour (so they say… we’ll see about that) and was a conglomeration of their favorite songs, primarily performed as a four piece. Missing was the extremely visual display of the previous tour and virtually any synth element, save a few crucial parts*. The bulk of their performance was distorted, guitar, bass, and drums. Very raw, and the perfect anthesis to last seasons’ “Light over North America” tour. I enjoyed, glad I saw it, and wish them well (and will await the delivery of their next album that you just know he’s working on).
As for Jane’s Addiction… I just wish they’d kept their staging and props tasteful so we could have stayed and watched them, too. Unfortunately they had to venture into vulgar so we left as they were getting onto the stage.
No worries, Trent Reznor and crew played a solid 2+ hours on their own (and served as the “middle band slot”) so we got the rock show we came for.

* I spotted nary a monome nor Buchla. Bummer.

Last week Meg, the kids, and I took a trip to Wilmington, NC for a few days of rest and reflection. (and sand toys and playing in the waves). It was great, we feel really blessed to spend some time with some friends, and I’m ready to get back to the routine with a renewed vengeance (that’s why we have vacations, right?). Meg has a great vacation write up (with pictures).
Live concert visuals – Basement Jaxx – Jump and Shout

These live visuals are played behind Basement Jaxx’s “Jump and Shout” and the serve to tell me we could go A LOT more abrasive on some of our live song visuals. Man, that would be intense spread across a big stage.

This, my friends, is a beautiful mashup of my former career choice (which I did for several years) and my current profession. (I like what I do now much, much better). This is really great.

I’m very intrigued by D-9. I will admit when I first watched the trailer I was hooked.

I admit… I didn’t watch the whole thing. But the first minute will definitely convince you that the internet should be hand drawn.

On our beach trip this past week I found a cool telescope-type-thing in the house where we stayed. I really enjoyed the results of putting my Canon SD1000 point and shoot up to the eyepiece to attempt to photograph the images from miles (er, mile?) away. Enjoy the results in this photoset.

Here are the desktops I’m currently rocking on my office machine. You don’t have to like them. I like them. I made them. I didn’t speak the quotes, but they inspire me.
