Tonight, Justin and I went to see Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction for the NIN|JA 2009 tour. It was NIN’s final tour (so they say… we’ll see about that) and was a conglomeration of their favorite songs, primarily performed as a four piece. Missing was the extremely visual display of the previous tour and virtually any synth element, save a few crucial parts*. The bulk of their performance was distorted, guitar, bass, and drums. Very raw, and the perfect anthesis to last seasons’ “Light over North America” tour. I enjoyed, glad I saw it, and wish them well (and will await the delivery of their next album that you just know he’s working on).
As for Jane’s Addiction… I just wish they’d kept their staging and props tasteful so we could have stayed and watched them, too. Unfortunately they had to venture into vulgar so we left as they were getting onto the stage.
No worries, Trent Reznor and crew played a solid 2+ hours on their own (and served as the “middle band slot”) so we got the rock show we came for.

* I spotted nary a monome nor Buchla. Bummer.
