iPhone (mini) mod

I performed a (mini) mod to my iPhone this week. Browsing some random design / tech site I found usbfever.com, a seller of various trinkety gadgets. One that caught my eye was the iPhone fisheye lens.
The kit includes a magnetic ring that sticks to the phone providing a place to easily mount and dismount the attachment. The shots are wonderfully low-fi and I’ve found it to just be fun. This is not a high-quality lens by any means, but it is functional.
A few of the lens:

(and just for fun, here’s that same image tagged and noted on Flickr)

Swing time

Today Dad and I finished up phase II of the fort, the swings. Truth be told we only spent about 30 more minutes finishing up, but I did get to use my Dremel to cut some chain (15k RPM, oh yeah) so I believe that qualifies as serious heavy labor. I saw sparks.
GnR seem to be enjoying it.

I’m also pretty stoked because the newest version of Synthpond will include OSC support.

I love Lost. I like where season 5 is heading (though do any of us really know where that is?). And I most appreciate that it is best enjoyed as a community event.

As I’ve been in a mini Led Zeppelin revival for the past few days I’ve decided to boldly break down my one favorite song from each of their albums. This has the potential to be rather controversial, but right, wrong, or indifferent here they are. Please, weigh in.
Led Zeppelin I – “Babe I’m gonna leave you”
Led Zeppelin II – “Thank You”
Led Zeppelin III – “Since I’ve Been Loving You”
Led Zeppelin IV (ZOSO) – “Stairway to Heaven”
Houses of the Holy – “The Ocean”
Physical Graffiti – “Ten Years Gone”
Presence – “Achilles Last Stand”
In Through the Out Door – “In the Evening”
Coda – “I Can’t Quit You Baby”

Seriously, if you never click on a AV Club link you need to change that policy right now. Meg shared this with me today and I just read the entire page. I laughed so hard my abs ache and my contacts nearly came out. So, please join me in the hilarity of Great Olan Mills photos.

Nice motion piece on the potential consequences of a major quake in California. As I think about it, it’s pretty dismal. But the piece does end on a call to action and element of hope. I link it here because I love the animation style and voice over tone.
