I love it when creativity takes an existing limitation (ie., the door has to be in a bus) and includes it is the design of the project.

Thunder-what?

Last Friday Meg and I hosted her parents for supper and some family hang out time. After watching my kids chase their dog into exhaustion (it was pretty funny), they were off to bed.
Then her dad and I had a lesson in Illustrator. He’s a fine artist who’s learned Photoshop over the past 3 years and it’s on to a new challenge.
Then he began to explore youtube for some videos of bag pipers. Yes, that’s what I said. Preston’s a piper (pictured here on the right) and loves that stuff. Most of what he heard played was traditional music, but this one piece caught my attention.
That’s, it’s AC/DC’s Thunderstruck played on the pipes.

Abandoned Cannons. Looks like something from Japanese Manga.

Gmail’s great, but if you’re constantly annoyed at the spam count shown on the sidebar, this article will show you how to constantly purge it. I edited it just a bit, setting the “is:spam” mail to be kept, but automatically be shown as “read.”

You know how they have those self-checkout stations at grocery stores? Every time I use one I think it’s funny when you buy produce and it identifies the produce for you. Then it asks you to move your [insert produce name here].
When I buy bananas, it says “move your bananas.”. Man, that just cracks me up. Every time.
Maybe it’s just me.

In case it’s hard to read, it says “DO NOT TOUCH. Not only will this kill you, it will hurt the whole time you’re dying.”

Foxmarks is my favorite killer-extension for Firefox. It uploads you bookmarks to their server, synchronizing them across multiple computers. As a multi-machine user (desktop, laptop, home) I find this one of the key features that keeps me on Firefox. And now I find out there’s a Mobile Client for viewing on my iPhone.
Exodus, in two parts

I didn’t post the opener for our current series, Exodus, until I had both parts complete. This, the first version of the open, was designed at over a minute to enable our multisite campus the time to transition the full-sized stage screen down. A minute is normally a long time for an opener / transition. In the end it does work, but the pace feels a bit “lounge-y”.
Round two, below, has much more energy, a little “oomph.” The soundtrack is Nightmares on Wax’s “Be There” from “Thought so…”. Overall it’s more beat driven, shorter, and based on a primarily green (as opposed to the white) background. I added a little more ramp to the colors so it didn’t appear quite as flat. I do like that it utilized a few jump cuts to boost the energy a bit. I rendered a couple of new sequences to smooth out some draggy parts of the original. Also, I think that the dips to black really work. Take a look for yourself.

In another interesting experiment, Radiohead is offering the community a chance to remix their track “Reckoner” via iTunes. The 6 tracks are available for $0.99 on iTunes separated into parts. They even give you the tempo (103.4 bpm) and key to help out.
Then you can head over to the remix site, upload your track, and get feedback.

This is how morning coffee should be served… in a massive veritable ocean of java. Hmm, the Java Sea. Is that taken. I should probably wiki that and see. And if you’re curious, my homebrew of choice at the moment is either Starbuck’s French Roast or Sumatra.
Counter track

Due to popular demand, I’m going to try and stay on top of the counter music choice for each series / week and get that info in your hands. This week’s track was “This Time (Klaas Mix)” by DJ Antoine. It’s fully a 4-on-the-floor dance track with some great builds and very thick bass. I love it’s dynamics and guitar sample. Not really crazy about the vocals (a little cheesy in my opinion) but that’s totally made up for by the beautiful builds.
