In the theme of cool+art+coffee, BENTWOOD coffee cuff would be perfect for a coffee connoisseur lady (I recommend her) who has everything.

And this by Sara Huston is the most perfect coffee table. Perhaps it would be fitting if you read this or this.

So I heard there was some sort of sporting event on TV Saturday night. Me, I was busy doing lessons on Reason and reading about the Subtractor synth. I created an interesting patch based on waveform number 23 that you can hear here. Perhaps I’ll build my own Kraftwerk tune.
Friday dozering

Friday, we headed down to the family farm to watch some heavy machinery in action. Dad and Jason hired out a massive bulldozer to help cut a new road to the family property through a small forest of cedar trees (sidenote, same trees used for G’s fort project).
It was a fun day, GnR enamoured with the machinery, the family lounging under a tarp tent Dad set up for shade, and me getting a chance to ride Jason’s 4 wheeler (if I give up the Wii, that’s my new hobby). Enjoy some pics.

Colossians piece

This is a little scripture transition that we’d planned to use the other weekend. In the end it was just too much scripture, too long, and took away from the mood of the music. It was cut. But you, loyal AVClub.us readers, you get to see it in its entirety.
Who knows, maybe it will see the light of day in another incarnation.

In a public art theme today, here’s your Yes and no**.
** while the “no” is very creative, it falls into the creepy realm. I gauge this by showing it to G. If he says “no,” then it’s a no.

Never heard of the band, nor am I crazy about their sound. However, this piece was shot at 1000fps (frames per second) over a duration of 4 seconds with a Phantom HD.

Today’s Wednesday and my brain’s on the fried side for some odd reason. I dub today “brainfry Wednesday” and vow to go to bed at a decent hour tonight. Let’s celebrate by looking at a few fun links. When I get to my printer, I plan to start work on some of these.[photopress:001b.png,full,pp_image]
Also, I don’t know if this is in the plans for our office decor in the future, but I would like to see it happen.

Uh huh, that’s right. I love a good tutorial, and this one stretches me into seeing what can really be accomplished with Photoshop. I appreciate the realism. Create a Citrus Fruit Design From Scratch.

If you haven’t heard from me in a while it’s because I’ve been putting in my time the past two weekend (read: all my free time) constructing Ft. Wilson for our son, G. It’s nearly complete and we’ll tell all about it. Meanwhile, it’s off to be for me. Need my rest before day 4 of construction.

Beakmaker is moving me.

File this under the category of “what’s moving me.” I recently picked up Beatmaker by Intua for my iPhone and shelled out a very fair $20 for this app. What? $20 for an app? All I can say is that I’m tired of duplicate, half-realized, shoddy applications. I’ve been looking for (1) something actually worthy to use the power of the iPhone and (2) something that will satiate my craving to be a DJ / closet electronica creator. This is a good start. Intua’s site has a lot more info. If you’re looking for a cool 16 channel step sequencer with live recording, multiple trigger pads, 2 effects channels… oh and you’d like for it to fit on your phone… this is the program you’ve been after.
You can use Wifi to load your own samples into it and export full sequences. In practicality that does take a little time. It also ships with quite a few kits already assembled. A kit contains 16 samples which range from solo drum and snare hits to full 4-8 bar loops, sound bytes, and instrument sounds. It’s just a lot of fun. I may have even found myself driving down the road, iPhone plugged in to the stereo, making my own driving soundtrack.

My prediction, call it a theory: in 2-3 years you’ll find groups of four dudes on a street corner in NYC. They’ll have iPhones running several versions of a similar program. Bluetooth will MIDI sync their tempo together. They’ll have a master system to “dock in” their audio. One guy’s triggering loops, one has a synth, the other two are scratching and operating a digital instrument we’ve never even heard of before. There’s a live MC, and they’re creating music that’s part digital and part organic due to the tactile interface.
And why will this happen? Because everyone carries a phone, the iPhone is $200. The apps will be in the sub-$50 range, much cheaper than something like Reason (maybe they should get in on this). Portable and accessible. It will open up creative avenues we’ve never even considered. Can’t wait.

What would you do with an old book? Read it? Shelve it? eBay it? If you are Noriko Ambe you probably said “sliver it into many, many layers and create some beautiful artwork. This would look great on my coffee table.

** Today’s takeaway, find some sort of physical art and begin interacting with it. Forget about my 1200 layer AE composition that continues to crash on me.
