Charlie Bartlett (2007)

I caught Charlie Bartlett last night and really enjoyed it (official site). The best way to describe it is an edgy, darker Ferris Bueller. It’s an indie film, a comedy, part social commentary. That sort of thing.

The theme of looking for acceptance and the abuse of common psychological drugs and counseling prevail. It’s told with a light and breezy wrapper (hence the Ferris Bueller flavor) makes the fairly serious subject matter entertaining without diminishing its weight.

I would recommend it, but only if the R rated content (which isn’t pervasive, but is present) doesn’t bother you.

  • Had it in my netflix queue but bumped it up to the top since it was available and they are really slow getting blu-ray’s to me.
My wife and I watched it last night and laughed and laughed…haven’t laughed that hard since “Death at a Funeral”

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to hook up with ya when we were visiting the area while we were on vacation. I think I briefly saw you behind the curtain at Greenville (opening day) right before the second service. My wife picked front row seats. We went to Anderson for the evening service but only stayed for P/W.

Saw Tony for a brief second and said hi, then ran into Howard and crew at fudds after the service.
