Download Day

When the new Firefox 3 releases this in a few days, I encourage all you know to upgrade to it. It’s free, superior in every way, and works even better on the Mac that before. Spread Firefox | Download Day 2008

What I would do with more free time.

YouTube – Amelie song Using

In a previous life when I had jailbroken my iPhone, I installed this program. I think that if I had friends with similarly jailbroken iPhones, we would have had a lot more fun…

Perfect iPhone Earbuds

Derek Powazek and his Quest for Perfect iPhone Earbuds. Interesting read. I think I may have discovered an iPhone feature I didn’t know about… I love when that happens.

Shades

3

One pet peeve I have about my Macbook (yes, it may have a few flaws) is the brightness settings. I love that the screen can get REALLY bright. But, there are times even the lowest setting is too bright for my eyes. Say, if I’m watching a movie at night in bed or in an airplane seat and I want to conserve power… you can only go so low. Enter Shades, a little applet that give you more fine-tooth control of your screen’s brightness. It works very well, it’s super smooth, and it’s free.

OnePrayer – paint piece 01

OnePrayer began this week with a bang. Here’s a little NewSpring specific piece we built to compliment the series and serve as a transitional element.

Will just put this up, fresh online. Love our production team (of volunteers) who executed this video live. Then Will adds a little polish to make it pretty.

Kids on Vacation

0

On vacation last week, I snagged a few quick videos of my kids doing… kid… things. The first is Gardner on a ski machine we found in an arcade. The second is Rainey demonstrating the finer points of Greek and Lebanese dance at Nicola’s, our favorite place in the world to eat. It’s in Atlanta, which we hit about suppertime on the way back from Florida.

What are those things?

13

I’ve seen these things for years in different areas of the country. I’m sure a google search would help me, but I’d rather be lazy and ask you guys… what are those things on the telephone lines? They seem to be located near military bases most often, but I’m not sure there’s a connection.

Anyone?

iPhone / Google cal sync

8

I just may have to re-jailbreak my iPhone. I’ve been waiting for the time that the iPhone will have a two-way Google Calendar sync, and it appears that NemusSync is the golden ticket.

But I don’t have a fancy iPhone

4

Yes, that used to me be. As much as I love my iPhone (and I do. love. it.), there’s still quite a lot you accomplish, internet-wise, with a standard TXT-capable cell phone. *** UPDATED LINK *** This article from lifehacker hits on a few of the services that interface TXT with the internet in an awesome way. I did it for years, and sort of miss the simplicity of using TXT as my command line to the internet.

Bent Festival 2007

I’m fascinated in the Bent Festival and the process of circuit bending. Crazy geeky stuff. (warning, there’s a little profanity in the video).

I think the guy at the start looks a little like Macaulay Culkin. (which brings up a sidenote: why does imdb.com look so, so terrible?)

Yes and no.

Why the microwave is kept far from my kids

Seriously, yes. These are great. I remember Lee McD and I trying this experiment out at the house years ago and faintly remember the smell we described as “ozone.”

Meg would really love this (I remember Oz, honey). Here’s something for a rainy day…

A creative endeavor

2

I love creativity, I love art, and I love stretching myself. I’m a big believer that you can continue to be creative as long as you exercise it, stretch yourself, and don’t allow yourself to get stuck in a rut. Me, I create motion graphics. I do it a lot. But to keep myself sharp, I’ll delve into other artistic genres. Now, I may not do these other things well… in fact these experiments may turn our poorly, but the purpose and goal is really more to stretch my brain into something different.

I’ve kept a copy of Propellerhead’s Reason nearby for years. It does have it’s viable uses for me (generating clicks for click tracks, building texture and beat beds for various videos and roll ins). But from time to time I’ll pull it out and try to actually create something. I’m in one of those cycles and so for the next few weeks I’m going to share some of my attempts at electronic music.

No promises on quality, remember this is an experiment.

There’s an mp3 link attached so you can download these and create your own bootleg AV Club album. Collect all 10!

Maltaanon creates new worlds

0

Gotta love this, After Effects junkies. Maltaanon is up to his shenanigans again creating planets and new worlds and such. This guy thinks on a different plane with respect to After Effects, code, design, and creatively executing his ideas. Worth your time.

Birdo

Love this piece by Birdo for Resfest. Strange, yes, but the sound design and visual style are great. I’d love to do something in this flavor.

Just plain no

0

I know you’re a fan. I know you think it may have the potential to be geeky / artsy / designery. But seriously, this is just a no.
