SomethingStore.com interests me. The gig: you send them $10, they send you something. Could be something good? What if they send you angry bees, or maybe milk? They don’t really say. Still, I’m intrigued. Has anyone out there used it?

Got my delivery from Shufflesome this week. In an effort to my my iPod Shuffle a more desirable option, I’ve wrapped it in skull patterns. Everything’s cooler wrapped in skull patterns (which probably partly explains the draw of pirates).

Yes, yes, and yes. Love this article from Smashing Magazine on typography examples. Some pretty, some hit their message well. But all are bold and unique. Love it. Here are three of my favorites:

How do you charge?

I was at Publix the other day and saw these. Now there’s a fundamental problem here… Red Bell Peppers run you about $3.99/lb and Green Bell Peppers around $1.99/lb. So how do you charge for those in the middle.

I’m not saying we’ll setting this at the AV Club, but I submit it’s a topic worthy of discussion.

Is it just me, or does this Bible Heroes character look a lot like David Schwimmer (aka “Ross” from Friends).

Mother’s Day write-ups

Mother’s Day at NewSpring went over very well this year. I’d love to write it up myself, but honestly I’m having blog-lag. Not sure why, maybe I should go on autopilot for a few days. No fear, details of the service have been faithfully chronicled by Shane Duffey and David Jolley.

Radiohead concert

Last night, Meg and I saw Radiohead in concert. They played at the Verizon Amp. in Charlotte.
Unfortunately, I only brought in my iPhone and with our lawn seats, the camera was rendered useless once the sun went down and the lights went up.
My thoughts:
- as one of my favorite all time bands, I enjoyed seeing them live.
(but, positive and negatives)
- Thom Yorke doesn’t have much for bantor between songs, shy of saying “cool beans”
- they execute their live set EXACTLY as their album sounds. Little improv. Would had liked some “extended versions,” etc
- loved their stage design, gorgeous use of video and lights.
- that said, each song stood alone. It went song, blackout, generic stage wash, next song, blackout… Maybe it’s because I work at NewSpring and we try to be in tune with the flow of a service as a whole, but it just felt a little disjointed.
- I was so stoked to hear “Exit Music (for a film)” didn’t expect that.
- they desperately needed IMAG screens on (see image)
- premier parking was a good idea
- funny, it threatened to rain all night but held off. Everyone oohed and ahhed at the lightning every time it hit. It almost felt like God saying “hmm, nice lights Radiohead. But check this out.”
- glad I went. Probably won’t see them again unless I got really close seats and could see the band a little better.

If you don’t see me online, it’s because I’ve gone off the grid to see Radiohead in Charlotte tonight. What a great Mother’s Day present, huh? (OK, so the dates just happened to line up. But we’re going to enjoy a night in Charlotte). Watch for updates on Twitter.

Snowbirds in Anderson

Yesterday, Anderson SC hosted the Canadian Snowbirds for a free airshow and flying demonstration. It was the first one I’ve ever attended, and I must say I was pretty impressed. We took the kids, and surprisingly Gardner wasn’t that interested. But Rainey was very impressed. Who knew?
A few shots from the event.

NIN will take over the musical world

Nine Inch Nails continues to push the boundaries and innovate in amazing ways. I twittered just the other day that they released a new single. I saw later that Trent Reznor released an entirely new album for free (The Slip, I’m currently downloading it).
And did you realize that he also makes available quite a few of his raw tracks so that his fan base can take a swing at remixing them? What? Give away your RAW TRACKS? Now this is a way to (1) empower your fans and create buzz or (2) spiral yourself into financial ruin. An experiment like this only works with an extremely prolific musician who continues to ooze creativity and ideas. It’s not like “hey, you that one good NIN song? Yeah, that one?” No, he continues to have fresh creative ideas.
I wonder if the process of creating helps him to create more. You know, the more you use, the more ideas you get. I submit that it is very likely.

Me or Jesus opener

This weekend, we began the series “Me or Jesus?” For the opener, we thought a lighter, whimsical approach would be best. As Shua and I discussed, much of our recent work has been heavy, dark, textured. The look he landed on was intentionally a visual contrast and a good launching pad for some fun animation ideas.
For the piece itself, I liked the idea of showing this conflict between Me or Jesus. Influences include Spy vs. Spy, Catch me if you can, and Ocean’s 13. In the end, this is the result:

We’re about to take our kids to Split Creek Farms where we’ll buy goat cheese, see farm animals (I refuse to milk one), and watch a live border collie sheep herding demonstration. I’m bummed Tony Morgan has turned down my invitation several times. He doesn’t know what he’ll be missing, but you all will… especially if you follow my Twitter.
