Me or Jesus opener

This weekend, we began the series “Me or Jesus?” For the opener, we thought a lighter, whimsical approach would be best. As Shua and I discussed, much of our recent work has been heavy, dark, textured. The look he landed on was intentionally a visual contrast and a good launching pad for some fun animation ideas.

For the piece itself, I liked the idea of showing this conflict between Me or Jesus. Influences include Spy vs. Spy, Catch me if you can, and Ocean’s 13. In the end, this is the result:

  • “Catch Me If You Can”, is so cool in the opener/credits. I loved the retro 60′s look they had. Like a lot of the movies of that period.

How can you go wrong with Spielberg, and Mad Magazine?

Jeff, this piece took around 10-14 hours. I spent about 1/3 of that time brainstorming, planning, sketching, and preparing the audio. The rest of the time was spent in After Effects and finishing in Final Cut.

    Ken,
For your own sake, could you please create an inferior piece of work now and then???
Your consistently excellent output creates an environment in which we come to expect nothing less….and I for one, never want my appreciation of your talents to be diminished by the ridiculously high standard you have established.
How’s that for convoluted praise and twisted logic????

  • Great work here Ken, this is tons of fun. It’s always a challenge to continually keep our visual styles fresh, and keep them out of a rut. Love the tension between Me and Jesus. I’m going to have to watch the sermon now. Love the music too, makes me want to get my Ocean on.
