AE Scripts

0

After Effects scripts? What are they? How do they work? What can they do for me? I’m setting up my new machine and looking for all those nice little components on the last Mac that I forget I installed, and I revisited AEScripts.com to reinstall my favorite, the BG Renderer (and found this one, too).

Basically, an After Effects script automates something that would typically take a long time to do by hand. Or, it would be impossible to do normally. They have to be understood because different scripts are applied differently, but the payoff is well worth it to learn.

Louis Vuitton

I’m really enjoying this Louis Vuitton piece. I love this style of cinematography, and would love to see us do some work like it.

Pig Roast

Pig Roast 2008 was another dramatic success. It’s the first pig roast with wifi and Twitter. More to come, I’m pretty exhausted now, but here are a few pics I snagged from the web.

Mika outdid herself on the cookies. Wow.

Pig Roast 2008

It’s the morning of Pig Roast 2008 Eve. For those on the fence about coming, here are posts from previous years. I gotta go now, much to do (turn on the free Wifi, make a pig roast iPod playlist, set up the Wii… the usual stuff).

*** As a sidenote, if you’re coming, bring a lawn chair (or ten). And since there about 100 of you expected, if you could park at the church and walk, that may allow all of you to actually have a parking space. Remember, games begin at 4:00, food at 6:00. ***

This is my style. Who needs some pansy hair dryer in a gym? Not this guy; we go for the big guns (er, for your… big… guns). When you go to dry off at my gym, you get a full-body-dryer. I must say, it’s really nice for a quick cool down before entering right into the mass of humidity that is South Carolina.

I'm a fan.

And it really is the King of Fans.

Nice little piece about collaboration and creativity. This reminds me a lot of the creativity and production breakout at C3 this past year.

Collaboration creates something bigger than any one person could ever create alone. Working with the right [people] doesn’t make you twice as good. It makes you ten times as good. _Joshua Clark, Wander.

Ephesians scripture break

11

This past weekend, we needed a transitional piece to bridge two songs. The band required about 20 seconds to move musicians and chairs. Rather than an awkward silence, we decided to build a small motion graphics piece. It provided the perfect opportunity to feature a relevant scripture for the day. It also set up the context of the song and set a tone.

Ephesians / Wind (QuickTime, 1.7MB)

On a technical note, the blades of grass were drawn in Illustrator. I started with about 3 pieces, and created about 5 unique groupings of grass total. They are laid out in After Effect 3D space and were rotated, overlapped, and scaled all differently to look more random. Here’s a screen shot of my comp window, just to give you an idea of the spacing. All told, there are 113 layers at work.

new desktop

I’m such a fanboy. My new notebook (a Rhodia) arrived last week, and of course I make a desktop to match. Jeer if you want, but it makes me happy.

So far, I love the garish orange color, the easy perf flip cover, and the engineer-geek-designer feel of the notebook. And the paper is lovely to write upon. The graph grid is a fine purple, which works well. I’m not crazy about lightly perfed pages, however, that tear off when you so much as think about flipping them. And me, I like to keep my notebook intact, so this is more useful as a disposable pad of sorts. It doesn’t suit journal-style. Perhaps I’ll try a spiral bound version next.

I’m not really in a Saturday-blogging-place right now, but I’ll guide you to my Twitter feed if you’d like to keep up with me today. And if you’re lazy, here are the latest two posts:

Also, last night we hit up Sullivan’s after the wedding (because wedding cake just isn’t enough, right?). Dang.

Daddy and G breakfast

0

Me and the G (I know that’s poor grammar, but it just sounds cute) got up and headed out this morning for a daddy and G breakfast, hopefully the first of many. This week’s destination, the Corner B. I had the Granger, and G had a chocolate chip muffin. We talked about all of life’s ponderables (what color is your favorite, what kind of animal would you like if you had your choice, how fat is our cat). It was a blast, and that kid can throw down a chocolate milk like nobody’s business.

At one point, he got hold of the iPhone and took a shot of me, too.

Penny

This is fun. Gardner put a penny on my bumper, oh, a month or so ago. It adhered itself and hasn’t come off. I finally unstuck it last week but left it laying right there on the bumper (you can see the original location). It’s hung on, loose, for a week. There must be some serious updrafts happening to keep it from falling off.

It’s the amazing penny. I wonder if I can sell it on eBay? Not sure how to categorize this post, I’ve settled on the “art” category in hopes to have this image immortalized in a museum somewhere. Any curators read the AV Club?
