Saul Bass / Star Wars

1

Here’s a little motion graphics humor that is circling the web (in designer circles, at least). This is what the Star Wars title sequence would look like if created by Saul Bass.

If you’re wondering why this is funny, read about Saul Bass. Now does it make sense? Maybe hummus-eating-techno-geeks will appreciate.

Javan Ivey shows a great video / concept he created organically. I love pieces like this, especially where we don’t rely on the computer. Sure it takes work, sure it’s not automated, but that nearly always means there’s something special about it. It was labored over, and I appreciate it.

Jailbreak! (what now?)

1

Ok, so I’ve jailbroken my iPhone… now what? I’ve located a pretty compelling pool game, a nicely rendered Solitaire, and Finder-style filesystem access. The problem? Aside from these apps being available to me on an airplane, they’re not that useful. Consider the following my “hot list” of Mac apps. SDK developers out there, take heed. If you make these, I will be happy to buy them.

[As a general theme, my desire is to have my iPod able to function without the necessity of the web. I want info native on the iPhone, but I want it to migrate to the web from time to time. Rather than have to physically sync with iTunes to backup my contacts, I'd prefer it to utilize wireless data to upload. You get the idea.]

(1) off line access to Ta-Da lists, with a sync back option. I want my to-do lists on my phone, AND I want them to periodically put themselves online so I can access them from my computer. I’m not that picky, am I?

(2) Google calendar sync with the on-board iPhone calendar. I like the on-board calendar, but I don’t like being tethered by iTunes. And occasionally I like to use the online option from my desktop.

(3) Gmail contacts sync. (good luck with this one)

(4) Twitterific, or a clever and clean Twitter app.

(5) an IR remote adapter + universal remote control app for my TV. I’d like the adapter to plug in to the audio port, and I won’t have to chase down the remote my kids have hidden.

(6) Propellerheads Reason for iPhone. (I’m just sayin’)

(7) A really good strategy game. I was a huge fan of Age of Empires II on the mobile cell phone. No joke, I had it on my LG Chocolate and it was really a lot of fun. I can get into a game like this if I can carry it with me.

(8) A mobile office program… at least a mobile Text Edit that easily syncs to my desktop. Oooh, or syncs to Google Docs. I’ve found that writeboard works now, but again, you’re tied to the web.

So, that’s my list. I’ll stay jailbroken until the official apps start to trickle in, then I’ll be hopeful for some of these omissions to be satisfied.

I am loving the wallpapers and portfolio over at endeffect. One of them graces my laptop at this very moment.
