We began the Stuck series this weekend. The opener was a fun one; melancholy, and the summation of our team’s collaborative efforts. I definitely think the tone works well for the message Perry’s teaching. (plus it features some great Will Rodes photography, Blankenship typography, Coleman rotoscoping, and NewSpring staff beautiful faces… all looking sad and dejected).

Whats the song playing in the opener? Seems familiar….
Will
Ken was to humble to say, but the amazing compositing was done by him.

I think this is my favorite piece that we’ve done… (@carrie – the song is Gary Jules’ cover of “Mad World”)

That video rocks. Well done. I hope it kicks the message of just right.

Hello,
My name is Matthew Rivera, I use to live in South Carolina and visited NewSpring a couple times. Recently, I have really been getting into motion graphics, like a lot! would it be cool if you shared a couple pointers? Especially for a rookie like me.

Matthew, read “Creating Motion Graphics” (all volumes) by Trish and Chris Meyer. Then watch a lot of TV. Or read a lot of magazines. Look not only to follow current trends (though it’s wise to be aware of what they are), but look for a unique voice.
Make sure your pieces support the message being conveyed. Flashy is OK if the goal is to be flashy. Sometimes contemplative is the goal.
Also, plan to spend a lot of time.
And work everything out on paper first. That’s a cliched answer, but it’s also a “tried and true” answer. It’s much easier to compose on paper and pen first to make sure the piece makes sense.

Thanks!
That was what I needed. I usually progress when I’m given direction at the beginning.
Thanks again,
Matthew
