Some really nice mograph work over at crabbey.com. I really liked the DIY piece… great composites and 3D work, especially the camera move into the air conditioner.

I’m going, and going fast today. But I’ll stop to recommend this portfolio site of Checkland Kindleysides. Pretty.

Sketchbook, TV, and a Friday

2

FRIDAY
It’s Friday, which is “Ken’s not in front of a computer much because he’s with his family” Day. But I’ll steal away for a brief minute as both the kids are currently napping and Meg’s fast listing items on eBay.

TV
I haven’t mentioned it yet, but what are we thinking about premiere week? Did anyone notice that about 100 shows (so it seems) launched or picked up their cliff hangars again. I won’t rant about my disappointment of Lost holding off until Feb 2008… what good would it do, and we can supplement with everything else on.

Of all of the launches this week, I caught the following, Heroes, Chuck, Journeyman, ER, The Office. I have a copy of Bionic Woman and Life left to watch. Anything else, I don’t think I can commit to.

My general thoughts. Heroes was fun to watch, but wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped for. Much like its finale, there wasn’t enough going on. That’s probably the challenge for a show with 100 characters. ER was great, and regardless what you say, it one of only a few shows to remain quality over a 14 year span. I enjoyed Chuck, but I don’t think it’ll make it. It’s funny, but I don’t know if that humor-spy-drama formula can keep it going for the long haul. Journeyman has potential. It dulled at the half-hour mark, but with one small insertion of another character it got really interesting. There’s more there. And The Office didn’t disappoint. I’d like to participate in the fun run.

Sketchbook
Last week I was cleaning house in my office and came across a few old concept sketches for the Life Free Live Loud branding. They were going to be a series of posters to advertise the brand, much like a concert flyer. I put them in the sketchbook (or direct here and here, click to close).

And that’s it. I’m going to get back to my cup of Japanese Brown Rice Tea (thanks, Mika!) Have a great weekend.

Hummer ad

1

Please watch this Hummer ad by Joseph Kosinski. Then drool. Then wipe off the drool. Then lament that you aren’t that good (but have something to shoot for). At least that’s what I did. Nice nod to pop culture (ie., video games) and really, really clean renders.

Hendersonville wall

I love this wall in downtown Hendersonville, NC. One of the first shots snapped with my Canon SD1000 this past weekend.

This will shake things up.

Amazon.com announces its Amazon mp3 store. Priced from $0.89 to $0.99, with albums starting at $4.99. 2 million songs to begin with (compare to 6 million at iTunes). Oh, did I mention that the songs are DRM-free? Yes, this will shake things up a bit.

what you missed Sunday

2

This Sunday we ran an ESPN parody video (a la “office linebacker”). It was pretty hysterical, and starred Clemson’s very own Jacoby Ford. It will be viewable online at the NewSpring Game Time site later this week. In the meantime, please enjoy these still shots of our production team peeps getting tackled.

G’s birthday celebrations

G’s birthday celebrations

Originally uploaded by avclub.

On Saturday, with the help of a good friend, Eldon Anderson, we were to celebrate Gardner’s birthday with style (and a little differently). Eldon heads up a local aviation group. We had a party in the hangar, complete with airplane cupcakes, ginger ale (don’t they always serve that?), and oh yes, airplanes. Gardner got to sit in a real cockpit, wear the head set, and even hear traffic control’s messages.

Thanks, Eldon, for helping us out. It was an awesome experience.

Gardner’s 3.

My son Gardner turned 3 today. Happy Birthday, buddy. I celebrated by not being online, but taking 158 photos documenting our awesome family day. We spent the day in Hendersonville, NC, just knocking around, buying candy, looking at a very large dog, and ending up back at the Wilson house for a family gathering. It’s been fun.

See it here.

I’d get all sentimental but (1) I don’t want to tear up here on my blog and (2) it’s not even 10:00pm and I’m exhausted. Head over to Meg’s site for more.

Tonight, Tom Conlon played at the Corner B (formerly The Corner Bagel Shop). Coffee, something called Sweet Potato Cake, and delicious music. Often familiar, some new, some classic Tom tunes made this a great night. It’s good to see an old friend again.

It was cool to see him on electric. I’m so used to Tom on acoustic only, but I really appreciate the Tele. Bonus points if you can ID the amp in the background. I forgot to snap a picture of the pedal board.

There’s a new CD out, Gravity Shoes. I picked it up and will be enjoying it tonight.

Occasionally, a camera phone really surprises with a nice picture. This is no Canon EOS, mind you, but my LG Chocolate is more discreet, it will access the web, play Age of Empires II (I’m not kidding) and, oh yes, it will make phone calls, too. I’ve found that under the right conditions, you’ll occasionally snap a gem. These conditions tend to produce more favorable results:

- dusk
- outdoors
- photographing a light source (neon, sign, light post)
- close up is better

This is the result:

pancakes

1

This recipe is cited directly from Recipes from Friends. It was delicious.

Cinnamon Pancake Syrup
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2/3 cup water

Combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil. Boil three minutes.
Remove from heat and add three tablespoons butter.
Serve on warm pancakes or waffles.

I was out of pancake syrup last Friday, and after making this syrup, I don’t think I’ll be going back to the regular stuff again. Incredible.

Roger.tv… dang. Be sure to watch the reel, which should probably do on a daily basis to stay inspired.

Appreciation

Thank you, people at HBO, for paving the way. This same sequence would now take about 2 weeks of hard work with a few people. Back then, months and months of hard work with a huge team.
