work and guitars

It’s been continues to be a busy week for us. That said, you can expect an awesome Mother’s Day at NewSpring. Come. Bring your mama. Enjoy.

I just finished watching last night’s Heroes. Still good, maybe not as intense as last week. Nice job keeping the mystery up… who blows up? Peter, Silar, Ted? It’s anyone’s game.

Last night, my wife was enjoying the Katherine Hepburn marathon on TCM, so I decided to break out my as-of-late neglected Strat and the POD. It is bliss, and I’ll be doing that more often. I forget how much I love playing guitar. I searched the web for a quick picture of my Strat for you, but it’s unusual enough that I couldn’t find one. (it’s a Fender American Double Fat Strat, tobacco sunburst, strung through, if you must know).

I spent some time picking out Wolfmother (listen) riffs and relearning the first part of “Drown” (listen) by the Smashing Pumpkins (from the Singles soundtrack… highly recommended). Never could get that 8-minute feedback solo right, though. It did remind me of a kid in college who bought a Mutron Biphase, supposedly “THE” pedal that set the Pumpkin’s sound.

Also got some colored 3×5 cards for my hipster today. (Thanks, Chip, for the starter cards… now I have a full collection). I haven’t had time to organize them yet, but I did take time last night to read some more of Getting Things Done, and I’m learning how to properly organize a “project”.

Tomorrow, it’s off to shoot some media for an upcoming series, Reel Life. Uncut. Uncensored. What’s it all about? You’ll have to wait and see.

  • Way to reference the “Singles” soundtrack. My favorite soundtrack, and a great flick, too. Lots of performances and cameos by early-90s staples like PJ, AIC, Soundgarden, etc.

The scene with Eddie Vedder staring at the bee documentary kills me every single time. Hilarious.

    Ken,
The more I learn about you, the more I like….
The Singles soundtrack stayed in my CD player
for many months. If CD’s had grooves, I would
have worn them off the Singles CD….
Not that you mentioned anything about taking
requests, but let me know when you are ready
for an audience to hear “Where Did You
Sleep Last Night” (I’m partial to Kurt’s
Unplugged version, but any version will do)
    and/or Reznor’s “Hurt” (I am not embarassed
to say that I actually love the Johnny Cash
performance of “Hurt”)….so, with all that free
time I’m sure you have on your hands, work on those
two tunes and let me know when you are ready to
go on tour….I’ll drive the VW bus and make the
    AVClub Tour T-Shirts!!!!
    Keep on Strumin’….
    See you tomorrow.
