Casino Royale.

(ok, I just lost a beautiful post about this movie, so I’ll be rewriting this from scratch).
Last night, I finally settled down to watch my latest netflix delivery, Casino Royale, the newest James Bond flick. Now I need to qualify this, I will rate any Bond movie at least a 3 by default as I’m such a big fan. But this one, it gets a solid 4.5/5. It’s grittier than previous incarnations, and I actually like Daniel Craig as Bond, though he’s even less smooth than Roger Moore… by far the most brutal, clumsy Bond thus far.
My only real complaint about the flick is that at about 80% through, it loses all momentum. I was wondering if it was over with questions unanswered. I was about to jump to the web forums for an explanation, much like I did with Solaris. But, in the end it picked back up and I’m no less confused than by any other Bond film. Much less humorous than previous Bonds, much more hand-to-hand combat, less gadgets, more intense. Worth it if you’re a fan of the action/adventure genre.
And as always, the opening credits blow me away.
Unrelated: I’m enjoying part of my birthday present this morning, a cup of Kukicha, or Japanese roasted green tea. Meg is nurturing my new good habits, and has loaded me up with teas from around the world, plus a copy of “The New Tea Companion,” which apparently is “the” book for tea drinkers. If you’re going to go, go all out.
Unleash is just beginning

What a day. Unleash was incredible yesterday. Hundreds of pastors, staff, and volunteers from all over came to enjoy a day of teaching, music, production, and personal interaction with the staff / volunteers of NewSpring. Thanks, again, to the phenomenal Production Team for coming for practices, showing up early in the morning, and for all-around being awesome. You guys really shined.
I don’t think I stopped talking until I got home last night. Thanks to all of the folks who came bearing questions and time to talk. I love that stuff. If you didn’t get your questions answered, or think of new ones you want to bounce off us, you can always comment here at the AV Club or use the contact form on the about page to reach me.
If you were looking for some gear / volunteer structure details, Lloyd and I did write up a little document covering some frequently asked questions. I have it for download here (required Adobe PDF), and I’m sure it’ll be online at the NewSpring site when it’s up and running.
Finally, if you’d like a replay, View the opener here (Quicktime)
Thanks again for the awesome experience. We received the blessing from being involved. I’ll end with this. Here’s an email I was sent by Charles Cole, one of our awesome camera operators. I’m sure he won’t mind my posting it:
I am so amazed. Thank you for letting me serve today. I learned so much and had such a good time. My batteries got a serious recharge. I am thankful every day I found NewSpring. Where making God famous is everything. I talked to a lot of people during my breaks and I did not hear one negative word. Amazing conference. Put me down to serve Unleash 2008

See you all at Unleash today. Drop by and say “hi!” And be sure to introduce yourself by URL.

I love when the pieces come together. I was browsing some mograph sites this evening, and I happened upon of my favorite collectives, MK12. I’ve mentioned them quite a few times on the AV Club (see here).
Well, it look like from this article than MK12 is responsible for the eye popping visuals I loved so much on Stranger than Fiction, which I saw just last week.
Small world.

Here’s a little piece we built to open the message for this week. Normally, I post openers so I thought I’d share a slightly different motion visual we use at NewSpring. The audio is provided by the awesome Karla Temples. (view video, Quicktime)
This week’s message addressed the recent James Cameron “documentary” on the Discovery Channel. I’d hoped to mimic the look of their animation pieces for our opening, and mesh it with the Girls Gone Wild identity from our current series. Here’s a screen shoot from the TV show:

Saturday finds

Today, Meg, DJ, and I (and GnR) went treasure roving around Anderson a la the yard sale circuit. You may remember from my previous mentions that we’re quite the yard sale frequenters. There’s always something interesting to find, and I like haggling because it makes Joe Sangl proud.
This week’s trip, the first of the Spring 2007 yard sale season, proved especially fruitful. Pictured here are $1.50 worth of quality music. I really loved “The Verve Pipe” circa 1995-96 (ironically, I was freshman listening to the song The Freshman). And for those who are unaware, Zoolander is in my top 10 movies of all time. Now I have the soundtrack to match my DVD… which I’m sure was also found at a yard sale.
I also rescued a chair that is just pimp enough to match the couch in my office. Those who have been to my office understand. The chair, a steal for just $3 (I talked her down from $7, though I think she might have just given it away) was missing a leg or two. But with some clever construction (pictures forthcoming), it’s repaired and will be in full effect this Sunday. Do come by and enjoy its 70s low profile and stunning faux black leather.
He’s back.
