Universal Everything / Audi.

This piece by Universal Everything. Beautiful. I think it’s for Audi. I saw it over at Stash

Stranger than Fiction.

1

Last night, Meg and I enjoyed the “just slipped under the nose of the critics” Stranger than Fiction, starring Will Ferrel. I will say, put it at 4.5/5. I really enjoyed this movie. Different, yes. This is no Ricky Bobby, mind you. It’s more like Jim Carrey in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but much less dark.

And from a technical standpoint, there are some composite / mograph shots throughout the movie that are just awesome. If you like something humorous, but thoughtful, I’d recommend it.

Medic! We need a computer doctor.

I think Will’s PC (our compression computer) is sick. Here is the message he saw on it today. Can someone tell me what “STD” stands for? I think we need to confront the computer on some personal issues.

Meg’s bday

0

Today is the birthday of the most important human on this earth… my beloved Meg. (Drop by her site and leave her a happy birthday comment). I am blessed to have known her for nearly 16 of her years, meeting her when we were in middle school (we met in Sunday School, of all places), and each year with her truly gets better. She lights up a room, as those who know her have seen, and her gentle, quiet spirit demonstrate the Godly lady that she is. It is my privilege to call her my wife.

Happy birthday, baby. I Love You.

A residual of not feeling great last week… I couldn’t drink coffee. And so I warded off my caffeine dependency. What’s new? Great tea, as recommended by the great Jake Beaty. I’ve been consuming it exclusively for several days, and I’ve fully acquired the taste, now. It may be my new drink of choice. Now, I still love a good cup of java, but since I’ve gone through detox on the coffee, I think I may avoid it for a little while.

Are there any hot tea drinkers out there? If so, what brands do you recommend. If you’re going to be a connoisseur, do it with style. Are there good places to get loose leaf tea to make yourself. Are there any interesting ways to brew green tea? I’m ready to learn.

Unrelated, here’s a nice combination CG / stop motion animation piece of moving typography. The purpose and meaning seem a little abstruse, but I do like the roughed edges and the tight integration with music.

Tonight. Heroes. O My Dang. (did anyone else love it?)

movie quote

Netflix posts the best movie quotes from 2006. Oh, and did anyone watch the Grammys? (or was it the Oscars, or the Academy Awards. I’ll be honest, it starts to run together).

It’s Saturday!

0

I’m feeling much better, and it’s Saturday. Strange that it’s 9:48 and I feel like I’ve been up for hours… oh… I have been up for hours. The kids are still waking up very early, and thus, so are we. But we got decent sleep last night.

Yesterday evening was more of the same, rest, rest, and rest. I’ve tired of CMT comedy specials, and have moved on to an HGTV marathon. We’re nearing the end of our bathroom remodel (I go to pick up the counter top today… someone make me hold off on installing it), and I’m just curious as to what’s out there. However, Meg and I agreed last night to take a month or two break before launching the next assault.

Don’t forget Baptism tonight at NewSpring, 5:00pm (that’s 4:30 for you Production teamers).

infatuations.

2

I’m slowly tweaking out some of the new features on the new AV Club design, and I’d like to point out to you the “infatuations” block in the sidebar, lower portion. These are things I’m currently infatuated with. Some old, some new, some artistic, some whimsical… all infatuations. I promise to update it with the flighty enthusiasm of an infatuation.

coffee.

No, I can’t drink it yet, still recovering from some sort of virus. But I do like this graphic from Charles.

I am feeling much better. No more fever, no more chills. Still achy, but that’s probably from the 10 straight hours of Half Life 2 I’ve been playing today. (run, Gordon, run). And like a good husband, I’ve gratuitously soaked the entire house with Lysol and washed all infected laundry. I think I’ll be released from quarantine today.

By the way, finally watched the Da Vinci Code. 2.5/5, barely. Just disappointing, especially after reading the book. Bummer.

update

It’s Wednesday night and I’ve officially been not moving at all for the past 24 hours. I’m still sick, but feeling good enough to pull out my laptop for a few minutes to check up on my 1,000 emails and read all of the posts from bloglines. I really don’t have much to say except (1) it sucks to be sick, (2) CMT has some really great standup comedy, (3) I love orange Gatorade, and (4) I don’t think I’ll ever be eating at Carson’s Steakhouse again. Now, I don’t think Carson’s had anything to do with me being sick, but, well, you know…

I’ve sent Meg, Gardner, and Rainey to my Mom and Dad’s house a few miles away in hopes of them not picking up what I have. Rainey (she’s 6 months old) threw up this morning and so Meg and I are obviously nervous. It’s not good for anyone to be sick, much less a little baby. I’d appreciate your prayers especially for her. She’s done a little better throughout the day. I’m just thankful for family close by to help take care of us.

Oh, last night we went rock climbing for the first time. More talk about this later.

For now, it’s back to my Jello and CMT.

Heroes cameo

1

I nearly forgot this until I read it on another blog, but did anyone else see the Stan Lee cameo on Heros last night?

“music moves me”

2

That was the title of a song I sang in our 5th grade musical. And today is no exception. Shane asked me this morning how I was feeling, especially after yesterday’s bout of nastiness. “Well, I’m at 90% right now, but after I crank up iTunes (and have a cup of coffee), I’ll be at a solid 95%.” Not bad for a Tuesday morning and a cold. So, what’s on the playlist today:

Led Zeppelin, especially, “Achilles Last Stand” and “In the Evening”
Röyksopp, the “Melody A.M.” album
Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence”
Basement Jaxx – “Do your thing”

Covering all the bases today, we have dance, classic rock, chill, and some retroactive.

self defense 101

In a pinch, you can defend yourself with an umbrella. How very The Avengers or Poppins. Hey, maybe we can call this technique “goin’ poppins.” Is there another way to describe it? I’m open to ideas.

heroes.

2

Heroes continues to impress. Great episode tonight. And if I didn’t mention it, Lost was great this week, too.

we (don’t) want the funk.

1

But we have it. I’ve unfortunately picked up that nasty repertory crud that’s been going around and I’m not a happy camper. I normally take great strides to stay well during cold and flu season. I’ve had my flu shot, I wash my hands frequently, and I make great effort not to lick the rail on the stairs at the mall. But perhaps God just wants me to SLOW DOWN for a day or so. And that’s what I’m doing.

Oh, and G threw up last night for the first time ever. I won’t go into details, but it wasn’t the best of mornings. I did feel good enough to briefly get out and go to a meeting, but I was straight back to the house to take G to the doctor’s. (good news, we’re classifying what he has as “one of those freaky weird things kids just do.”).

Anyway, I do envy your prayers. Oh, did I mention my main symptom is losing my voice. Do you think that means I should be listening more and talking less? Regardless, pray for a quick recovery. cheers.

No, the gas water heater didn’t explode, but the piping job has sprung a leak… I’ve replaced it three times now. At the moment, it’s not dripping water so here’s hoping it’s repaired. (very small “yeah”).

Meg and I are neck deep into several (yes, not just one) major repairs around the house right now. That would explain the lack of posting over the past few days. Give me until Monday, and I promise a weekend review-in-pictures.

Robosapien, no, flam-o-sapien.

4

Yeah, that’s a worthwhile mod for a Robosapien.

Oh, and speaking of fiery things, Dad and I installed a gas water heater at the house tonight. I’m letting the PVC glue dry well tonight before I fully run it, but I’m feeling pretty good about my major home repair. Yes, I’m feeling like da man.
