LOTR open.

Lord of the Rings, the NewSpring sex, marriage, and dating (not necessarily in that order) series, launched today. Perry brought it, and you should head to newspring.cc to check out the message.

And here’s the opener:
Lord of the Rings open

Pimp my ride.

Saw this last night at the Clemson Tigerama. I think I’ll submit a PO to our CFO at NewSpring to get one of these babies for the Production Team. Brace yourself, Paul, it’s coming…

Can anyone say NewSpring Road Trip 2007?

couch potato.

1

This week, I’ve been a couch potato in the evenings. It’s getting darker, and once the kids are down I think the last bits of our energy are drained. So, what is the AV Club watching this week?

Heroes. Still good. If you want to catch up, they’re playing reruns of the first episodes this Sunday night at 8:00… all back to back. I think it’s on NBC.

Lost. Though this week left me wanting more, and I think Joe Hall summed it up best with “all style, no substance.”

The Office. Always funny.

ER. We’ve watched it for over 10 years. Still good.

MOVIES: Hart’s War. Meg rented this one. I’d give it a 3.5/4 for “enjoyable, unique slant, takes racism during WWII, in a German POW camp.” Not a happy, lovey-dovey feel good film, but an important one to watch.

Ghostdog. Oh yeah! 4.5/2. Jake and I saw this back in 2000 and have referred to it nearly every day for the past 6 years. Mostly enjoyable as an inside joke. I mean, it’s Forest Whittaker starring as a Samurai gangster. Doesn’t get much better…

so that’s how they do it.

Here’s a nice piece for Dove and the reality behind “touch-ups.”

silly itunes.

iTunes is silly. I loaded in the new Beck album yesterday and it attempted to categorize it (and seriously, who CAN categorize Beck?). Here is a list of the various genres iTunes tried to associate with Beck’s The Information:

- punk rock
- techno-industrial
- musical
- duet
- jungle
- other
- ethnic
- other (again)
- Christian Rap

would you rather?

Last night was our first “at home” meeting of the home group so we decided to play get-to-know-you night. We tossed a ball around and I had a list of questions. The person catching the ball (ok, it was a plush toy cube of Gardner’s) answered. And just for fun, we changed the pace after a while and took on some would-you-rather(s). Every hear them? Here’s a selection (you MUST answer):

Have Boba Fett-like thrusters in your nostrils OR retractable roller blades on the bottom of your feet?
Only be able to take pictures of your babies by scanning them in a computer OR have to consume all liquids using only a thimble?
Fight Mike Tyson OR talk like him?
Be eaten by ants OR be eaten by lions?
Have a perfect short term memory OR a perfect long term memory?
be 3ft tall OR be 9ft tall?
have a foot long eyelash you can never pluck OR an earlobe the size of a basketball?
have your eye fall out at random times OR have uncontrollable constant drool?
lose your keys three days in a row OR have your dog eat your birthday cake? ?
have one giant tooth OR millions of tiny teeth?
Only eat your one favorite food OR Never eat it again?
Get a bad tattoo OR have bad teeth?
Wear a life vest the rest of your life OR a pair of parachute pants?
have one leg ridiculously shorter than the other OR arms that don’t bend?
talk to dogs OR talk to cats?
Have a strong mutant power but everyone knew you had it? OR Have a minor power that was unknown to anyone?
Eat 3 lbs of hair OR Drink a gallon of shampoo?
have caterpillars on your face moving around on your eyebrows OR or be trailing paprika wherever you go?
have needles for leg hair, OR have flares shoot out of your nose every time you say the word “the”.
be able to stop time while you slept, OR never need to do laundry?
hit every red light for the rest of your life, OR always be wrong?

for the Barden/Gibson kids

1

I know the Bardens are a long way off from kids (they’re getting married in December) but the Gibsons may be a little closer. Regardless, these to IT/Computer gurus of NewSpring have something cool in store. When they have babies, I’m getting them each one of these.

tuesday.

1

Today’s Tuesday. It’s going to be a good Tuesday, because it was a good Monday. Good Mondays nearly always lead into good Tuesdays. Yesterday, we celebrated Boss’ Day at NewSpring. Shane, hands down the best boss ever ever ever, and his crew went to Wild Wings for a delicious consumptions of poultry in bone form (and someone decorated the halls).

I’ve finally and fully rearranged my office with the help of some of the Production Team wiring gurus. The arrangement is much better, and my brain tends to get stagnant after about 6 months and requires a change of scenery. You may not be excited about it, but I sure am!

And Heroes was still flippin’ awesome last night. Great show… I’m still in it for the long haul.

And our new home group is gearing up tonight for it’s first “discussion time.”

Now DJ is coming over for breakfast and Meg and I are going to teach him the intricacies of making the perfect cooked egg. See? Great Tuesday.

Amazing 2006 reel from Dstrukt. This stuff is (1) on the bleeding edge and (2) one of the reasons I push myself. Wow.

coffee parchment – high res

0

Per Jesse’s request, here’s a scanned copy of the “coffee parchment” file. It’s very large… 22MB, and a JPEG at that. The TIFF version was about 450MB, so the JPEG will have to do.

Download (Note: RIGHT CLICK and “Save file As…”!!! Don’t straight click unless you want to be waiting a loooong time)

Nice piece by Adam Swaab for the NFL on Fox. He creates a real sense of impact and weight with the CG characters.

It’s fall, and that means pumpkin time. I picked up two of these beauties today… anyone have a good pumpkin recipe?

makin’ parchment.

I love our church. I love the commitment to excellence… and I love that we go above and beyond to the nth degree and focus on the details to create the best experience possible.

Pictured here is a sample of parchment our kids department is making for some of their upcoming programming. Oh, you could just use paper. You could even kick it up a notch and use construction paper. But no… they decided to tea-stain sheets to the the right look and then burn the edges.

As Lanna and I were talking (and she was tea-staining), I mentioned coffee might work better. The next hour was filled with various coffee staining and coffee-ground-rubbing experiments. We crinkled, we dug grounds out of the freshly brewed coffee basket, we crinkled again, we even employed the microwave.

The result… a very, very authentic scroll paper. (pictured here is just an intermediate step). I, of course, had to scan it at 300dpi for posterity sake. I’m sure it’ll get used somewhere.

Cat teleporter. ’nuff said.

Gardner’s ambient photoset.

My son, Gardner, has an affinity for the camera and beautiful ambient photos. I think you’ll agree.

Still Lost?

4

Tonight’s episode was more in line with what we have come to expect from JJ Abrams and the Lost crew. Nicely done… plenty of action, strange cliff hanger, someone actually DOES what you want them to (Sun shooting the girl). OK, so I think Sayid should have covered the boat better and seen that coming. And why does Zeke keep showing up? That guy’s everywhere. Maybe the Others aren’t as large in number as we think.

Ben’s comment near the end of the show continues to confirm my theory… he said he’s always lived on the island. My thought… these are the kids of dharma. They’re living on the island, playing psycho. What were your thoughts?

Just for fun… enjoy some Bizarre Taxidermy. I just don’t think I could get into this as a hobby.

Google takes it up another notch. I love Google Spreadsheets… I loved Writely… Google has now combined them into Google Docs.
