memories.

Today, Perry asked us to trudge through the archives of NewSpring video-land to locate some rare gems to share at the Innovate Church Conference at Grainger next week. What started out as a job in tedium turned out to be an afternoon of fun. I got to see (1) a quick history of NewSpring video all the way back to my first few openers (geez), (2) a glimpse into how far God really has brought us and developed our entire team as a creative and communications entity, and (3) how seriously in need we are of a good organization system.

Fortunately, I was able to locate all of the clips Perry needed… and I found a hard copy of nearly everything. But I wish it had been much better organized. (seriously, I have about 100 CDs or DVDs that are totally unlabeled). Now, the reason for my haphazard storage was simple, back in those early days of NewSpring there was only one tech employee… me. And was working well more than a healthy work week. Some things just didn’t have the time to happen and organization was one of them.

But that’s going to change. One of my goals this coming year is to properly archive and index everything we have done and will do in the future. Thank the Lord Will Rodes is on our team now, as he’ll be instrumental in getting this done.

Let this be a lesson to you church media guys / techies that are younger in your church’s life. Set up a good great system now so that when the time comes to really need those clips again, you’ll have them and won’t waste a day to get them. You’ll be glad you did.

Ken,

You should put a few videos online when you get a chance. That would be awesome to see some of your favorites. Hope you are having a great day
