Today’s been fun… my first day back to work after a few days of vacation. I spent the majority of today working on Perry’s new site. I just moved him to WordPress to give us more flexibility. I’ll be able to extend his functionality, add features, etc. The best part right now? There’s FINALLY a search feature so you can dig up that old post from 4 months ago. And can I say, the blogger import script is incredible.
What do you think of the new design for him?

It’s not purple.

we may differ on this subject, but I don’t understand the idea of putting four partical articles on the front page. The posts are the whole site and having to go to another page to finish an article drives me nuts. Also, without comparing the actual post dates, it isn’t clear what the chronology of the four shown articles is. Do I read across and then down or down and then across? My natural instinct is to read columns first and then move to the next column, which would be the incorrect order given the current layout.

I think it’s easy to navigate- let’s you see in one swoop what he’s done…but me being a girl…i would love to have more color

I know it is still early in the design phase but the white to gray transition is in an odd spot. It cuts through text. Other than that I like the overall layout.

Question: how many of you are viewing the site in Internet Explorer? I just noticed it’s doing weird things in that browser (go figure)

I don’t know about IE, but you seem to be good in Opera. I think that the design looks pretty good. In my opinion, Perry never really does cronologically-sensitive posts, so the 2×2 layout is a good way to get more of what he is saying into the first browser window (i.e. no scrolling)

This is something simple but it would help to clean it up (I think) is not having what appears to be a metal gradient at the top and then another gradient right below it. They seem to battle and look out of sorts. Other than that I like it better so far.

I will never be a fan of truncated posts (i.e. click here to read more.)
I don’t understand why, from a usability point, sites make their visitors click multiple times and navigate on and off the main page just to get to WORDS. Blogs are about content and visitors who come to them are returning for content… why make it harder on the user to access the only thing they come to your site for in the first place?
I’ll scroll all day long for good content, but if a site makes me click twice to get to something I should be able to access immediately, I probably won’t be visiting again.
Layout-wise… Hemingway is Hemingway… but I think you could introduce some color via your link/rollover states that would kick it up a notch.

[...] I’ve spent the morning refining more of the perrynoble.com site. (follow the discussion here). What are your thoughts on v0.2? I know, it’s still the “side by side” post approach, but I’m looking for a way to tame some of the volumes of content into more easily digestible segments. I’ve taken it down from four posts (which was confusing) to two in the “featured posts” page. I softened the top gradients, and gave a “monthly archives” listing should people choose to browse that way. [...]
