more perrynoble.com
I’ve spent the morning refining more of the perrynoble.com site. (follow the discussion here). What are your thoughts on v0.2? I know, it’s still the “side by side” post approach, but I’m looking for a way to tame some of the volumes of content into more easily digestible segments. I’ve taken it down from four posts (which was confusing) to two in the “featured posts” page. I softened the top gradients, and gave a “monthly archives” listing should people choose to browse that way.
What are we thinking? Is it still too light? My humble Mac monitors show it great, but it may wash out on other screens.

definitely an improvement. I am not sure I would call it washed out, but it might benefit from at least some non-text element having some color to it. The two article set-up is better I think, but now that there are only two it feels like each of them needs a little bit longer of an excerpt (not sure if that is even possible with wp).
A couple other minor things would be that unless he plans on having comments I would just get rid of the mention of comments at the end of the articles. Also the “Read on” needs to be moved and/or made more noticable. Right now, it almost looks like the small excerpt is the whole article. I am thinking a “…” and moving the “Read on” up to the end of the article might work.

i was thinking that you could use a side by side approach with a larger section/excerpt for the main /most recent post and then shorter excerpts/blurps on the side. 2 to 3 of those would look good. all of it really blends together for me, so i’d put a contrast frame around the 2 to 3 on the sides (maybe gray or silver), so that the focus is left on the main shot. the image of perry is very ghastly. maybe a just straight black and white photo in the header would look good. i’m anti-gradient on everything, so i don’t know about that. maybe make it black with a small white gradient on the bottom. but this is all one dude’s opinion. i don’t even know how to do what i just told you. lol.

I think the text needs to be darker. It blends in to the background (at least on my screen anyway). Also, that picture on there looks funky. It is all washed out. You may have been going for that look, I don’t know.

It’s just my humble opinion… but… I think that the Post Title text could stand to be a bit darker. Perhaps even make it that purple color.
(Sidenote: Why purple?! Sorry, anything purple reminds me of TBN.)
And since he doesn’t allow comments… it might just be best to get rid of that. (Easier said than done, I know.)

oh and i forgot. you need a big and fancy flash intro. all sites need those……lol.

Guys, all great suggestions. Thanks so much. I showed it to Perry today, and his suggestions were similar to all of yours. Great calls. As for the washed out look… it’s probably because those Apple 23″ Cinema displays just look so darn good
Perry asked for more color, so we’re going to give him that… and the color du jour… red.
Thanks for the input. Check it out tomorrow.

Great job Ken. I’m diggin’ it.

Hey Ken. It looks nice but it’s definitely hard to read. Darker text and bigger letters would be nice. I personally like the black background of yours here.
Gary
Red is a good color. Kind of reminds me of my beloved Georgia Bulldogs.
Nathan
I vote with Jethro on the bigger text, it is to small, but I like the lighter colors

I don’t know if it is just my computer but I would like the new picture of Perry to print on the page when I print his blog. Can you make this happen?
ken
Darker text / bigger text – DONE.
Steven Grey
I like the blog. But i have to agree with Richard. need cool flash intro with Perry coming out of the ether and pointing to the various content. :-p
